On November 18th, 2011, Kurt suffered a serious spinal injury while bodysurfing. The events that followed were nothing short of miraculous. We were traveling as a part of a large group for a friend's wedding. In that group were doctors, nurses, EMTs and helicopter pilots, all of whom proved invaluable for Kurt.
Kurt received spinal surgery late Friday night and has been recovering well ever since.
Now back in the states he will continue to work in rehab to regain movement on his right side and strength on his left.
This blog will follow the rest of Kurt's journey through rehab and beyond. Thank you to everyone who continues to keep Kurt in your thoughts and prayers. We will do our best to update this blog as often as possible.

well it's been over a week since Kurt's accident. we're still in San Salvador, still in the hospital. Kurt's still immobile, still in pain. this is not to say that there hasn't been progress. Kurt is working tirelessly at physical therapy. he walked with assistance for the second time today. he sleeps without a neck collar now that the surgeon vouched his repair work (the x-ray is amazing -- 4 discs removed and cages implanted; he's now the bionic man). things are progressing as well as can be, better than expected. in other words, we're still here, but still full of optimism for a speedy recovery.
we finalized plans to fly home on Wednesday. we arrive at LAX at 6:25 pm. Kurt's friends have helped line up an ambulance from LAX, and are working on a rehab facility for Kurt. we're hoping for Scripps Encinitas. I'll follow up when we know for sure.

remember, if you want to be a part of Kurt's welcome home/get well soon/prayers/warm wishes book, please email my wife Megan Filipovitch at meganfilipovitch@gmail.com. thank you to everyone who already has. i know my dad will be humbled by all the love and support around him.

until next time,
