On November 18th, 2011, Kurt suffered a serious spinal injury while bodysurfing. The events that followed were nothing short of miraculous. We were traveling as a part of a large group for a friend's wedding. In that group were doctors, nurses, EMTs and helicopter pilots, all of whom proved invaluable for Kurt.
Kurt received spinal surgery late Friday night and has been recovering well ever since.
Now back in the states he will continue to work in rehab to regain movement on his right side and strength on his left.
This blog will follow the rest of Kurt's journey through rehab and beyond. Thank you to everyone who continues to keep Kurt in your thoughts and prayers. We will do our best to update this blog as often as possible.

Out for a Sunday drive....

Today was a big day for Kurt..part of his therapy is to go on an "outing". Nancy, the recreational therapist, drove us to Swami's where Kurt got out of the van in his wheelchair then he transitioned to his walker and stood and watched the ocean for about a half hour..we then drove to Cardiff and went to Starbucks..Kurt had his favorite non-fat cap while watching people bustling around. After a month of being confined to four walls of hospitals this was a great day for Kurt..when we got back to Scripps he was exhausted! Tomorrow the drs will make the decision on his release date! I'm confident that we're on track for the 23rd, I'll keep you posted....Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and never underestimated the power of God...

  1. Right on, Kurt!
Odd enough. I rehabbed at Scripps, too, after a surfing injury.
They have great people. Glad to hear of your excellent progress.
    Merry Christmas!
